Preoperative Advice

 

To ensure your safety during the procedure you are going to undergo with Dr. Pablo Casas, you must follow these recommendations:

  • If you are pregnant or think you may be, you must inform us.
  • Do not eat food or drink water for 8 hours before your scheduled surgery time.
  • You must not enter the operating room with metal items (rings, necklaces, earrings, piercings, etc.).
  • You must not wear makeup in the operating room, nor nail polish on your fingernails or toenails.
  • If you take any regular medication, you must inform the doctor before your surgery.
  • From 10 days before your surgery, you should avoid taking ASPIRIN, IBUPROFEN, ANTI-INFLAMMATORY MEDICATIONS, and HERBAL PRODUCTS, as they can interfere with blood clotting during surgery.
  • On the day of surgery, you must bring your preoperative tests, blood work, and electrocardiogram.

 

Postoperative Advice

  • MEDICATION
    • Take the medication prescribed in your discharge report.
    • Do not take aspirin or derivatives for at least the first 10 days.
  • MOBILITY
    • Do not do physical exercise or major efforts (lifting heavy objects) during the first week.
    • Contact sports should be avoided during the first month.
    • Do not sunbathe during the first month.
    • If for any reason you are exposed to the sun, use total protection sunscreen and a cap with a visor during the first month.
  • TRAVEL
    • From day 7, you can travel normally, including by plane.
  • NUTRITION
    • You may follow a normal diet.
  • REST
    • It is recommended to sleep with your head slightly elevated during the first few days to reduce swelling.
  • HYGIENE
    • You may shower daily, but do not get the nasal splint wet. Wash your body and hair separately.
    • Perform frequent nasal rinses of both nostrils with saline solution.
    • You may brush your teeth normally. Some bruising of the upper lip is normal.
    • Once the splint has been removed, you can shower normally, wet your nose, apply your creams, and use your usual makeup.
  • SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS
    • Avoid smoking and drinking alcohol during the first week.
    • Avoid blowing your nose.
    • If you sneeze, do so with your mouth open.
    • Apply ice wrapped in a towel over the cheeks, forehead, and lips during the first few days.
    • Avoid swimming for at least 1 month.
    • Do not wear glasses (prescription or sunglasses) during the first month. Contact lenses may be used the day after surgery.
    • Clean the stitches with a cotton swab (ear bud) soaked in hydrogen peroxide several times a day during the first week.
  • IT IS NORMAL
    • For mucus to be slightly blood-tinged during the first week.
    • To breathe poorly through the nose during the first few days.
    • To notice the formation of crusts inside the nose, tightness, and occasionally mild headache.
    • For bruising under the eyes to resolve within 7 to 10 days.
    • To feel the tip of the nose somewhat numb and “asleep” during the first few weeks.
